What days and times work best for you? Let's start with 1 and go from there.
Also, tell me the Barnes & Noble or Borders that you are going to in your town.

Lisa, I'm posting here because people seem to be ignoring this valid mechanism you've put out here for developing this meet-up day thing. Just wanted to tell you you're being heard, but maybe not enough wm on there yet who've read your comments. But we're out here!
ITA ^^^Just as I said before on other blogs, I'm in Fayetteville, NC and we do have a B&N and what I thought was Borders is actually a Books A Million. We also have a Waldens inside the mall. Saturdays seem to be family day in most of these, however I'm flexible. Its gonna take a little time. There's a lso a Meet Up Group for IR families and people who are already coupled up.
I was looking at store locations for Borders, B and N and Books a Million and I think we do need to add Books a Million to the meet ups. It's in 18 states and heavily in Alabama, Florida and Virginia, looks like. It's alabama based and I noticed that they don't even have Borders in AL and MS only has 2 B&N- so B a M may work better for some of those back south. The Waldens I've seen in CA malls are less suited for meetups-they tend to be smaller with no coffee shop, and also the malls close at 9pm out here. But the B&N and Borders are open till at least 11pm.
It is looking like a lot of people like Sat. for meet ups. that wouldn't have been my first thought, but ok.. I think people should check their store out on sat eves to see if it seems like a good time( if they haven't) I avoid my local bookstores on Sat afternoons for sure because it's so hectic at that time-and yes more kids around as Selena mentions. It's kind of hard because although sat got many more votes than other days at 31%( so far) there isn't a clear majority. I guess that would be too difficult to achieve with voting for 7 days. But I guess on the positive side most people are free on Sat eve.
I hate to add more fuel to the fire, but what about these IR Meetups? From the looks of it, these Meetup Groups may be on to something. Seeems like there's a better response...
Hey I know that UK commenters (and lurkers) are few, but here's an event at Borders in Islington, N London
ANGEL POETRY: described thus "...on Thursday 18th October, kicking off at 7.00 p.m. This monthly poetry reading is at Borders Bookshop at the Angel in the N1 Centre Parkfield Street, London N1 – the shopping mall opposite Angel tube station. This month we have three features –Gill Andrews, taking time off from her job as a lawyer to feature at Angel Poetry for the first time with her perceptive and finely crafted work; the fantastic Maria Gregoria bringing you a sensitive blend of words combining the heat of Manila with the strength and wit of New York and doing a great job; and last but absolutely not least the widely published Josh Ekroy, another Angel Poetry first with poetry so muscular it’ll make you want to jump up and shout. It’s a free event that also includes an open mike …all poets welcome, just sign up on the night or e me at agnes.meadows@discover.org.uk before if you want a floor spot...
Both these nights are growing in popularity, so come along and share the passion and the joy"
~ so guys spread the word in London ~ maybe this could turn into a good IR meetup place? I've been meaning to go for months (I joined the mailing list since spring) so this'll be my 1st time. I'll certainly take the advice on another blog making sure that I check out the guitar mags etc. and btw I'll be the darkskinned BW with a smile and shy eye contact (I can now manage all of 2-3 seconds)!!
What's happening with the meetups through Barnes & Noble/Borders - are these happening anymore? Did a day and time get chosen? Are people doing this through Meetup.com? Can someone bring me up to date on this? Thanks.
I go to Borders or Barnes and Noble anyway, at least once a month. And I probably will continue to do so whether anything comes of this or not, for at least the next 50 years.
How about instead of trying to pick a date and time... how about if we all just go when we go?
If I start a conversation with you and you think I'm cute, just keep the ball rolling. And vice versa.
Think about it... I'm guessing that people open to IRR's are probably more open minded than average, and probably more likely to be a bookstore than average... in the past, in the present, and in the future... why we don't just declare that bookstores with coffeeshops are "our place", period, any time their doors are open? That way I can just keep on going just like I normally do, for the same reason I do now... the books ;-) and if I see somebody that might be interesting, then it's an extra bonus. If I feel like the primary reason to go to the bookstore is to check out who's there, if I don't see anyone interesting, I'll feel like I wasted my time. I'd rather just hang out like I always do and see what happens, hit or miss.
The cool thing about THIS "arrangement" is that it can be permanent. Forever. And easy to spread the word around. It wouldn't be too hard to take such a simple concept nationwide. Worldwide, actually.
And we don't have to pick a particular chain... or ask "which one do you mean?" No "figuring out" required. No voting between days required. We just spread the word that bookstores with coffee shops are the place to be. Worldwide.
Any book store... any time, any place.
If I want to flirt, I'll flirt - if you want to flirt, go right ahead ;-)
I'm trying to think of an "optional" sign... i.e. showing your IR colors by white people wearing a black shirt, and black people wearing a white shirt. But I'll forget most of the time... so I'll have to rely on starting conversation and seeing where it goes.
Sooo...I went to Angel Poetry last Thursday despite the cold snap in London.
I arrived just after it started, and found myself sat in the front row. Some the poems were deep, some edgy, some funny and some downright scary...or mix of 2 or 3 of these (a woman read a witch's recipe for causing sickness in all or part of the body of your enemy...and this is poetry? yikes!) During the applause between each poem I glanced round at those seated around me. Alas most were grey haired women and possibly 2 young men...I'm not being funny but I didn't want to be lumped together hanging out with old women, so I bounced heading for the aisles. I began lurking within hearing range of the poems, browsing books, and smiled at a young WM who I didnt fancy (I was being friendly). He was browsing in an aisle as I attempted to get past him. He didn't smile back and seemed (to me) almost offended for my 'intrusion'. It wasnt until I got past him, browsed and then carefully checked out what he was reading. Turns out he's reading self-help erotica (no wonder he seemed defensive when a strange woman smiled at him). LOL On the downside, overall I didnt see many guys on their own; most were either with a woman or were pushing buggies. A few were at the starbucks across the floor but too far to hear the poems. The Poetry night doesnt seem an obvious or easy venue for meeting new guys. Anyhow, also not good: two BM strolled by (separately) and each stared nonstop, eyeing me up from afar up to when they walked past. Maybe they're locals and they thought I was a new face etc. I didnt like it one bit and I found something quite offputting about the staring I got.
Seriously - how can guys not know that body language which positions a woman like a prey is scary for her?! One was so overweight and old that I was glad to have found a photo book by Banksy, the 'subversive' graffiti artist. I enjoyed reading this up to halfway, a purchase for another day I'm sure. The poetry evening lasted an hour; I left straight after instead of mingling because I felt v tired anyway.
~ conclusion: nothing to report~
Still, I may go to the next one, but will try to drag a GF along.

I found this in a Maryland Meetup:

does this mean the meeting didn't happen yet at the bookstores?
